On Friday we set up the school Photography studio to create a dull and run down bedroom for our main protagonist. To create this specifically old and run down mise-en-scene we used many props such as; antique mirrors, speakers, drugs cabnet/box, camp bed, cushion, make-up, dark clothing with accessories for the hair such as clips and necklaces, and we also used make up to give the illusion of bruises and grazes.
To start with, Lucy put dark make up around my eyes to suggest sleepless nights and tiredness rather than being hurt. As the filming and narrative progressed she added more make-up to the face and body to capture bruises. For this, the main products we used were plum coloured mascara for clotted blood, green, brown and cream eye shadow for bruising and tired eyes and eye liner for cuts on arms, which looked very affective as even when i looked in the mirror i scared myself at how realistic the bruising looked.
I believe the group was pleased with the quality of mine and Emily's acting and we were delighted with the amount of work we got done, especially the fighting scenes which looked realistic on camera. I think the hardest part of the day was the few shots of Emily lip sinking and making the fight scenes look realistic as it was hard to feel really upset and hurt when your having such a laugh filming but I still thought our day of filming was a success and i really enjoyed acting in the video. We will be filming again next week to finish scenes off and tweek parts of the film as well as adding in shots of Lucy playing the guitar if we feel we don't have enough footage already.

Preliminary: Camera Experimentation =]
Today Elliot did some preliminary filming to try out a digital SLR camera that we may have an interest in using as one of the cameras for our music video. After he has edited a section on Premier Pro we will look at it to see what the quality and effect looks like, but from the other short videos i have seen using the same camera, it really like the effect it gives so hopefully we will be using it.
Schedule =]
We are getting at the stage where we are nearly ready to start filming. After our audience feedback on our advert we still need to take on that advice and re do parts of the poster.
But we have decided we are going to take a day filming on Friday 21st January, for an all day shoot. We want to start in the morning, for Elliot to start to set up the photography room, then work through first two lessons with me and Emily to get the base of the video until 11am, then when me and Emily have a lesson, Elliot will film Lucy and the guitar shots, so after lunch we can film me and Emily again and then we can carry on until we have finished.
Hopefully we can get everything done in one day but if not we have left the following Friday with a couple of double frees just for any extra touch up filming or extra shots that we think of.
After this hopefully we can start editing and evaluating the filming process.

Email =]
This is the email we sent to Florence + The Machines record company.
Dear Island Records,
My name is Heidi Lesiw. I am a Yr13 A level Media Studies student, and for my coursework me and my group want to make a music video for the song ‘Girl With One Eye’ by Florence + The Machine. I am writing to see if I could be granted permission to use the song for my coursework, which has to be published onto the internet probably using YouTube. We are not trying to gain anything from you just the permission to use the song, all credit for the music will be given to you the record company and the band. As we are just being marked on the making/filming/editing of the video not the actual song choice.
We would be truly grateful if you could give us permission for the use of this song as this would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Heidi Lesiw

Magazine Advert Video =]
Here is the video me and Elliot made were we spoke about our magazine advert and the reasons for the specific font, how it was edited etc. However after the feedback our peers we will probably make some positive changes to the advert.

Mood Board =]
This is the mood board we created to use as inspiration for our music video. We incorporated words that were key to our video as well as visual images we found that relate to our video's concept. We also added the song lyrics from our music video to create an atmosphere. This dark theme is what we want our music video to feel like and to create an indie rock atmosphere for our target audiences to engage with. We culminated our findings and edited them on Photoshop. Using an amalgamation of text and images creates a strong bold and intense mood board to help us keep to the genre of our music video.
Magazine Advert =]
Here is our first attempt of our poster we created as a group on Photoshop using our favourite photo we took during the photo shoot. We used various affects and me and Elliot filmed a short discussion of us explaining our reasoning for why it looks this way.
After finishing the poster we asked our fellow classmates to give us some feedback to what they thought of our poster in relation to target audience and customer satisfaction. We got given constructive critisism from the group about the layout and fonts we had used. After looking at our poster on a big screen, we could see that these improvements were needed.
We were told to remove the quotation marks as it seemed too gramaticially correct and formal and doesn't relate to the teenage market. We realised removing them would be the best idea idea.
Next the group felt we had too much writing between the pictures and they thought it appeared more like an advertisment for a new film or a theatre performance. This was understandable. We discovered that our slogan 'Dont miss your latest dose of rivalry' sounds childish and immature, if we got rid of this writing and bought our 'out now' writing down it would look simple and not so tacky.
Finally, our logo of 'Rivals' (the name of our band) placed at the bottom of the magazine advert looked very similar to the 'Barbie' brand signature, which we had never realised, so we were glad they pointed this out as that is definitely not the look we were aiming for.
Our Media Group suggested we change the font to something more striking such as an italic, swirly font, to look less girly and more edgy and prominant and so all font matches. We feel the overall feeback was very positive and we agree with the small critisism and will make the nessecary adjustments to improve our advert to the best it can be.
